Nutritionist vs Dietician

Here you will learn what a dietitian is and what a nutritionist is.  A nutritionist and dietician do many of the same kinds of work, but a dietician normally has a lot more education.  

Nutritionist -

A Nutritionist works with people to help them with their diet, nutrition and wellness of their patients.  They normally have a degree in nutritional science.  There are two types of nutritionists, Licensed Nutritionist and UnLicensed Nutritionist.

A Licensed Nutritionist (clinical nutritionists) normally gets certified through the ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center).  They are able to get certified in many different areas like Diabetes Management, Cardiac Vascular Management and many other specialities that deal with food in helping people keep healthy.

They normally can work in medical field and do the same type of work as dieticians.

A Non-Licensed Nutritionist normally works with people and communities to setup healthy diets by teaching them about good nutrition.  

Many licensed and non-licensed nutritionists can work in larger institutions like schools and retirement homes.  It all depends on the States requirements that they work in.  Each state has different requirements for each type of job which will tell you what kind of degree or certifications you need from an accredited school.

Dietician -

To become a Dietitian you much have a 4 year degree in nutritional sciences or dietetics, complete an internship in the nutrition science field and also pass an examination to become an  Dietetic Technicians, Registered (DTR) or Registered Dietitian (RD).  There is only one place you can take the examination and that's though the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), the credentialing agency of the American Dietetic Association (ADA).

A dietician normally will find jobs in the medical and health care field.  Jobs like treating patients with diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease.  They help their patients improve their health by working with them to regulate what they eat, vitamins, nutrients and drink.

When you look at the difference between nutritionist vs. dietician jobs they deal with many of the same job descriptions. The biggest difference is the amount of education, and credentials you have.  Do your research and find the right school for the type of job you are thinking of getting.  The more education you have the more choices you will have finding a job as an dietician or nutritionist.
